Welcome Fellow Beaders

Making jewellery with tiny glass beads in geometric forms are my real passion.
I am a self taught beader and have had many an opportunity to say to myself
“I wonder what would happen if I deviate and do it this way”
Happily with this outlook, my love of geometric shapes and versatility within a piece of jewellery,
led me to discovering an original technique that achieves both of my goals.

ZIG ZAG Bangle, pattern available for download.

The Reversible Waves Necklace is another of my original design patterns accepted by Bead and Button, using a combination of delicas and seed beads. With this design the choice of beads and technique allows the bead work to curve making it perfect for a two sided collar.

Jewelry

Our Story

We both trained at the Jam Factory Workshops, South Australian Craft Authority, under master craftspeople Vagn Hemmingsen and Frank Bauer. Brian later taught Jewellery and Silversmithing at the South Australian School of Art, and Sue taught jewellery making and design with the Department of Further Education. Our work has been exhibited widely across Australia, with Brian represented in the Queensland Art Gallery.
At Harlewood Studio, our jewellery is more than adornment—it is a creative expression shaped by imagination, integrity, and skilled hands.

Susan Harle
My love of colour, combined with backgrounds in silversmithing, jewellery, and fashion, naturally led me to beading. I create clean, abstract jewellery using small Japanese glass beads and traditional stitches, inspired particularly by Art Deco and strong, often monochromatic palettes. My pieces are designed to be everyday favourites that are also special enough for evening wear.

Brian Wood
My jewellery is inspired by music, science fiction, and the quirky side of life, with a touch of dark humour. I value the truly handmade and work mainly in sterling silver, often combined with recycled materials. Each hand-fabricated piece carries a message through its materials or form.
